Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease/flour a bundt or loaf pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients into the wet mixture alternately with buttermilk until just combined.
  5. Mix in red food coloring until evenly distributed.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan before transferring to a wire rack.
