  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup crushed peppermint candy canes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla and peppermint extracts.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and a pinch of salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture until combined.
  5. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough into balls on prepared baking sheets. Create an indentation in each ball with your thumb.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes until slightly firm but soft. Remove from oven and fill thumbprints with chocolate chips while warm.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before drizzling with melted chocolate and topping with crushed candy canes.
