  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/2 cup almond meal
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 medium fresh apples (e.g., Granny Smith), thinly sliced
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a bowl, combine flour and granulated sugar. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Add egg yolk and mix until combined. Press into a tart pan and chill for 30 minutes.
  2. For the frangipane filling, cream together softened butter and almond meal. Gradually add sugar, then beat in eggs one at a time until smooth.
  3. Spread half of the frangipane over the chilled crust. Layer thin apple slices on top and pour remaining frangipane over them.
  4. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown and set. Let cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
